I have been following this site for a while and have never seen these het on Prorec.com there is an article about buying vintage mics and the guy suggests a Korby as a viable alternative.

What gives?

tracy korby is an expert at restoring vintage microphones, and runs a pro-oriented business at http://www.vintageking.com/ - he also manufactures very high-end LD condenser based on what he has learned over the years. you dont generally read about him on non-pro forums like this, but trust me, the pros know him well. another guy you might want to know if you stay in this business very long is bill bradley at the mic shop in nashville. he sells only top-end vintage mics and a select few new mics, builds power supplies, restores mics, and that guy knows everything. i bought my pair of royers from bill.

I know of their mics, but I've never heard one or anyone talk about them. Then again, maybe it's because I've unconsciously crossed them out. A few years ago, I had a beat-up and dead U87i (NOT Ai) snatched from right-under my nose on eBay. That's far and square... Turns-out to be an employee of Tracy Korby and he contacts me to say I can buy it for $2500 refurbished! That was rather too sales weasely for me... And I woun't pay any money for a reburbish or mod on a U87 from ANYONE but SPA. Tracy Korby most likely sticks a new Ai capsule on most of their reburbished U87s... Yes, the capsule did change slightly... Something Neumann claims it didn't do and would rather you not know...

I'd buy something from Bill Bradley any day!
