I have pro tools digi 002 rack, I'm trying to compare a store purchased CD, with something I recorded on my Alesis QS8 Keyboard thru Reasons, and exporting audio from reason then bringing it in pro tools then I bounce to disk when play it back on cd I don't have the fat cd crispness, you know what I mean? on a cd every insturment seems in its separate place,

even though I do the panning eQ's is there some sort of mixing software need with pro tools or plugin or effects processor needed?

Does the 002 have optical inputs? I don't use one but thought it did. Use the optical TOSLINK out from your QS8 to the 002 if you have it.

At that point you have at least recorded it with no more conversion heading in.

Maybe you are doing that? If you're looking for "space" in the mix...EQ is typically a great reach as well as some comp / limiting to keep things in place.

I have a QS8 by the way and love it...and I play keys hard. That thing feels very close to a real piano and the samples are great onboard.

Not trying to be funny by any means but what you hear on those commercial CD's are MIXING SKILLS which you obviously lack. Do some more research on sites like these that'll help you get your skills up, but the most important skill builder is Experience.

most commercial cds these days are also overly compressed

Ok and!
