I'm looking for a program just to make the kind of samples you hear in pop songs today. The beats, synths, etc. I know you can use pro tools or logic, but I figured I can save some money by getting a program strictly for samples, since I don't need a DAW right now.

Here's a song that shows the type of samples I'm trying to make: The Summer Set - "Fuck U Over" (Official Lyric Video) - YouTube

Thanks for any help!

I think even for samples you are going to need a DAW. There is more to it than just sampling. While I am not an expert, I worked with this style of music for a bit (EDM) and it is much more complex that just throwing a few sounds together and away you go. If that were the case, you could use Audacity, but you are going to want to do more with the sample than cut, paste and loop. Go and try the lite version of Ableton. The full package is expensive, but it provides just about everything you need (VSTs, VSTis) that will get you started. I use Ableton differently sometimes (as a traditional DAW) but even for my music, the clips and scenes help get me started before I am ready to arrange.

There are a few more out there that will get you there, but start your search with Ableton and you will quickly see who else is out there.

Thanks for the response. I probably should have clarified, I said I didn't need a DAW because I already have Garageband. I also have a MIDI keboard. I've been able to get a few beat-type sounds from this Komplete Elements Program I have into Garageband, but I want more sounds. I'll check out Ableton. Thanks!
