What's a good drum machine for me?

Hey!

I'm looking for a decent drum machine that sounds like real drums, out-puts in stereo, doesn't just have pathetic simple beats (are there any that have patterns that last longer than just a measure?...ya no, not just bass/snare/bass/snare?) and is simple to use. Does any thing like this exist for under $400?

I'm a mostly a singer song writer/guitarist/bass player trying to do it all myself.

i just bought the zoom-123 rhythm track this week. i was looking for what you described. it is pretty sweet. i got it for just over $150. has tons of beats and allows you to program your own and create songs out of them. it can also program bass and the drums sounds are extremely good. my only gripe is that there are no pre-programed fills. this doesn't mean than you can't do fills, it just means that you have to program them yourself. easy to do if you know what you want, but for those of us who aren't drummers it takes some tries to get it right.
 
Buy Acid 3.0 for your PC for about $199.00 or less and forget a drum machine. Then you can use real samples. Easy as 123 to program as your PC is the interface. Loops are the easiest way to create simple tracks, or you can build drum tracks one single shot or hit at a time.

Drum Machine

I have a Zoom RhythmTrack 234, which is very similar to the 123. I paid about $220 for it. It has bigger pads than the 123, and a few more "drum set" setups.

It's easy to program, especially once you read the manual. :-) Once you have a pattern saved, it loops it when in play mode, allowing you to jam a little bit. ALso, if you program a song, you can throw several patterns together. It's really made me appreciate songwriting more, b/c it takes more time than you'd think to lay out a song. . . .
