The pieceo'crap pedal I have just isn't cutting it anymore. I'd like to move up to a double, if possible. Can anybody recommend me a good one? Can I get a decent one for under $200?

For less than $200, I'd be looking at something used. I used cheap-O bass drum pedals for a long time (Gibraltar). I got a set of used Axis pedals for $250 from a friend and the difference was incredible. They were kinda light for my tastes (I kick pretty hard), so I traded another friend for a set of DW Delta Turbo pedals. The Axis pedals are crazy expensive new, so you may not even be able to find used ones you can afford. I'd look for anything from Pearl, Tama, or DW's top of the line.

Yeah, I have a friend who swears by Axis. Says he broke a ton of DWs before going with the Axis. Why does drumming have to be so expensive?

i use a Pearl, and it's ok once you get used to it and all, but it's been 5 years and it's making all kinds of un-tameable noise. Squeaks and ticks and stuff that tightening and greasing haven;t gotten rid of. I never liked it's play much, but i don;t got no money, so. I think after a long enough period of time, they will all do that. DW makes the smoothest and quietest, as far as i've played, but if you can find a DW single pedal for less than $200 you've struck a steal. The doubles go for about $350 to $400 around here, which is robbery if you ask me. NO pedal is that good. lol, And NO 5 peice drum set is worth $3000 w/o hardware. My drums sound just as good for $800/5 pcs. hehe...

It's a vendetta propagated by bassists...or something. I'm surprised your friend thought that Axis pedals were sturdy enough. I was always having to tighten things on my Axis pedals, yet my DW pedals have been pretty much maintenance free. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get those Pearl pedals.

At $200 you will have a hard time finding a "good" double pedal.
Some of the Gibralter d-pedals are a little under the $200 price point. I like Gibralter for the value of most of the accessories, but the pedals seem a little muddy to me. Some of the lower cost Pearl and Yamaha are maybe just a little over $200.
The DW are almost an industry standard, but I have talked to several drummers who have broken DW pedals. The Axis is almost a love it or hate it type of pedal - but they are waaaaay too expensive. The Tama Cobras are good pedals but you won't get one for $200.
I think the Pearl Eliminator is a reasonably price pedal, with lots of adjustability and its built pretty solid. I think it's it the $230-$240 range.

I can go a little over $200, I suppose--I'd just rather not. I have a trip to Spain coming up. Anyway, I'm not a really rough drummer (in fact, I'm really a guitar player), so I may look into a DW. Or perhaps a Pearl, if nobody backs up dcptnsdcvd's recommendation against them.

Dw has a more affordable dkicker out now, i think its around $250. The pearl eliminator is nice around $275. My old drumer loves axis, but he broke 2 single pedals. so at one point he had 3, (1 for backup). I have an old gibralter, it kind of sloppy. But they make good bang for the buck dpedals. pacific has one for about $135(?)

I have a Pearl, top of the line about 4 or 5 years ago that I don't use that I might be willing to sell cheap, if you're interested. Let me check the series/model # and I'll post again. Email me if you might want to go this route.

Although I don't have one myself, the Axis pedals really kick butt. They're extremely fast....

though a bit more expensive than $200, the Tama Iron Cobra power glide is an amazing double pedal.....I got one for $270 and in my opinion is worth every penny
I tried alot of DB pedals before buying this one...I played with a DW5000 single for 10 years - but the DW double felt a bit too loose when compared to the Iron Cobra...I also liked the Yamaha top-o'-the-line double but not as much as the Iron Cobra
the iron cobra can be adjusted in just about every way imaginable and it's also built like a tank!!!
