Whats a good A/D converter w/o preamps?

You can get 8 channels of Lucid or RME on ebay right now for under a grand. Also, there have been several Apogee's selling in the sub 2k range lately as well. There are even some 16 channels Apogee solutions selling at around $2000 as well.
