...happier than you.
O.K... so I'm over at my bro's doin' drum edits for our album. One of the (few) positive side effects of buying my own ProTools rig is that now I can do my own edits for this album. (since it was recorded on PT and now I know how to edit in PT) So,... instead of having to sit there and tell a grouchy engineer what part to slice and move and blah blah blah, I can just do it all myself and take my sweet time...

So anywhey... I'm over at my bro's house-sitting,.. (he's out of town for the weekend.. won't be back till monday)... and I'm just now realizing that I'm surrounded by some crazy gear... Here's just a little of what he's got set-up in his basement...

Neumann U87 & TLM103
Avalon VT-737SP Compressor/Pre
Hammond B-3 (with leslie cabinet)
Fender Rhodes
'68 Les Paul Gold-Top
'65 Fender Bassman (w/ matching 2X12 cabinet)
Some kind of Genelec monitors with a gigantic sub-woofer
An old 16 track 1" tape multi-track recorder
a butt-load of other stuff...

So... in leu of all this... what do you think I should do?

1) Take it all home with me when I leave and just say that the cat ate it.

2) Frantically record every song I've ever written in the next 26 hours.

3) Burn the house down!!! If I can't have it... no one can!!!!! .......mmmmuuuahahahahahahahaaaaaa!!!!!

4) Stare at all of it longingly, and lust after what I can't have.

5) Grab a bag of Cheeto's and watch TV.

Other options...? Anyone...?

:p

and why is it that you don't feel you can't record there too?...if you want to, that is. Or ask him for a trade for house sitting... I mean, studio electricity is generally pretty cheap, and I think the fact that you managed by some bizarre reason to end up with a Taylor (which should be mine, btw) might lend a little promising light towards the credibility of you not knocking his U87 over onto the deck of his 16 track and wiping out two pieces of equipment at the same time. Now...if you feel like climbing up on top of the leslie and doing some kind of jig... well, then you've got issues... A jig is just not the correct dance at all...

What you need to do is send me the Gold top, and I'll forget about that cheezy acoustic of yours. Honest!

R.E.C.O.R.D....what are you thinking???....man record record record....hes your brother ....right?...he WOULD DO IT TO YOU!!i have brothers and i happen to know this for a fact.

Well.. actually.. I can record over then whenever I want... My drums are set up over there, and our next "goal" is to think up a decent sounding way to mic those up. But anywhoo... basically I was just experiencing a bit of "gear overload". We got all this stuff just recently, (and by "we", I mean "he") and that's the first time I've been over there, by myself, just staring at it all... I was sitting there looking at all that crap thinking.. "geez... this is a lot of shhhhtuff."

I suppose it's a waste of money for me to have my own PT setup and mics and what not... but I still prefer to be able to do my own little home recordings... I reckon if I wanted to do something "serious" I would take it over to his house...

and while I'm taking polls... how bout some advice.

My bro is still new to the recording thing... newer then me even... and he wants to record a song and post it here... (he hasn't signed up yet, but when he does, his username will be Tagifen)....

anywhey.. he's asking if he can do one of my tunes...

should I let him?

should I record it with him and make sure he doesn't screw it up? :p or should I leave it totally up to him how to interpret and track it?

Any input?

P.S. The Les sounds sweet.. :p But I prefer my Taylor... acoustics are more my "thing".

Why are you still here?

I would be laying down drum tracks on that 16T if I were you.

You can transfer 'em to PT later and edit to your hearts content.;)

Actually, I was thinkin' the same thing...

I haven't actually done a "real" tape recording yet... (get it... "real".. you know... the tape has "reels" and I said.... oh nevermind) :p

I'd like to try it, though, just to hear what all the fuss is aboot... :D

You have severe OPTION ANXIETY...so I laugh at your dismay...braggart(Gage voice from Pet Semetary)No fair...nofair,nofair...

It would be a shame if all that gear came up missing and all you had was the description of the guy who ruffed you up and took it....

he "just got" all this stuff???

he is new to recording???

what is he good at? guitar playing?

i think youre just being braggy-waggy.

:)

He's a guitarist... and he makes (aboot) twice as much as I do... so he can afford it. :p Fortunately, he and I aren't one of those "starving artists". We just do this "on the side", so to speak.
