Lets say they were pretty much the same price:
Access Virus KC or Tascam FW-1884

Completely different products, but i need a new beast of a synth, and i also need a good recording device & can only afford one or the other.

Currently my only synth is a novation k-station, and my mixer is a shitty little behringer :/

that's a toughie... the lesson is: never buy a mono part synth unless you already have a multipart... i'd get the virus first, or you'll be stuck in endless tracking.

You could consider the new Virus TI, which incorporates the most phenomenal Virus engine to date (80 voices!!!), as well as an audio interface, Dual-Purpose control surface (either controls the Virus or acts as a dedicated control surface for your soft-synths and soft-mixers). And it will appear as a VSTi in your sequencer of choice. I guess thats why they call it Total Integration. Perfect if you have a laptop too, as you can quite literally have it be the centerpiece, of both your studio and live rigs with, minimal fuss.

You could always add a cheaper fader only controller like the Behringer MIDI controllers (Which are actually pretty decent for a Behringer  )

it's twice the price of what i've got to spend though
also, no car, i don't drive :D
