i know it's an odd question - but i am fairly new to compression and what it does.

I have a Joe Meek compressor and still don't fully understand what it "DOES"...

also what compressor plug ins would u recommend for use with pro audio 9?

A compressor cuts the loudest peaks of an audio signal by a ratio you specify, so that the dynamics of the audio are smoother. The loudest passages get quieter without affecting the softer passages. It allows you to boost the overall level of the track without clipping. Get a plugin or use your JoeMeek and experiment with it on some tracks to see how it affects the sound. FASoft puts out a pretty good shareware compressor for not very much $$$. If you know you want to spend the money, buy Cakewalk FX 1 or Waves stuff. I actually don't have a compressor on my system right now, but it's high on my priority list.
