ok,
you guys might remember my post of two months ago,
i bought a GS3, but the PSU wasn't included in the package,
i found a company in the UK that could make me one for alot less than the price of an original psu,
it all works, i'm glad, i especiall like the eq of the mixer,

BUT i notice that i have a few bad contacts in the mixer,
sometimes when i plug an insert cable in the main inserts the thing reboots,
like i have a power-drop-out,
there seems to be a weak spot under the meters of the 8 subs, the right top corner of the mixer, around the place where i connect the cable of the PSU

im going to contact the guy who made the psu, but i'm not certain that its the psu itsself.... if i give a little TICK on the mixer with my finger sometimes the power falls out...

thats bad

now of course i wonder, did other people notice a similar thing, with a mixer?
might be cause its dirty inside...or...don't know

anyway, i'm thinking of selling it of course, just imagine that if i'm doing a session, i bend over the mixer and the sound shuts down during recording,
i'd fire myself !

and i don't want to downgrade, i want a replacement that is as good as this machine, i like UK mixing descs, 'd prefer to stick with allen&heath,
soundcraft is nice too.

my budget...well....im a second-hand-market-hunter and only go for good deals, lets say around €1000, i'm slowly saving up some money so i might go up to €2000

i'm thinking of the Saber, but its hard to find and im affraid its over my budget,

other suggestions?

minimum 16 channels, two sweepable mids would be nice, 8 busses,
insert per channel, direct out per channel, main insert, u know, the regular stuff, what i dislike about the GS3 is that it doesn't have a lowcut, that'd be nice too

anyone knows how good the mixwizard3 sounds compared to the gs3 ?

(ps, behringer is not an option  )

thanks in advance !

A Saber prolly wouldn't be over budget but it'll be a nightmare to get spares for or to get repaired if you can't do it yourself...the PSU alone is enough to heat a small house. Lovely big desk but mine got considerably noisy with age

If you wanted to stick with A&H I'd personaly go no lower than the GS3000 these days

and ehm, i guess i shouldn't even think about GL series?
..i know..live..but who knows;.

the psu i got now stays real cool but there's a fan in it, i hate that,
i want utter silence in my room..
do most psus of 'bigger' mixers have fans in it?

The 14:4:2 does, but only four busses, and only ten mic pres. A pair of them would give you 20 mic pres with the Sys-Link, but still only four busses. At that point it would probably just be simpler and cheaper to get a single console anyway.

10 micpres is not enough,
the plan is that i get 16 analog inputs on my computer as soon as possible,
thats the minimum

You might want to give the new Toft Audio consoles a look. Other good used consoles in the lower price bracket would include TAC Scorpion and Matchless, Harrison MR3's, the occasional AMEK Einstein or BIG, D&R Daynor, and the Occasional Otari and Trident 65 consoles. In my opinion those are pretty much the next step up from a GS3 without making too considerable of a price jump. To add one more great console that I forgot about, the MCI 636, and even a Soundtracs IL or Megas console. An old Soundtracs may be a good way to go since there is an excellent company that does Soundtracs restorations and repairs in the UK:)

im checking out those consoles, but there's a few of like 14 THOUSAND euro,
thats a bit over my budget ;)

a soundcraft ghost might be nice, if it comes with a meterbridge,
but i prefer the eq of allen&heath,

any other suggestions?

Or you could not buy a new board and just sing disarm all day. :P
