Wassup people,
I want to get into software recording but don't have the $ for cubase right now. What software will let me record with (and listen to at same time) let's say reverb or delay. I want to have the option of either putting the fx on b4 or after i record but listen in realtime.
thanks all
p.s. i was told that adobe audition could not do this after i bought it!!!

I never record with plugin effects enabled, so I don't know what software will or will not do it. I often use a hardware compressor while tracking but that's about it. There is a free program called Kristal that you might want to check out. I use Cubase SE, which is less than $100 and should be able to do that although, like I said, I've never tried it. I think when you track with plugin effects, there will always be an audible delay/latency. It just takes time for the signal to get into the computer, go through the processor, have the effects applied and come back out to your monitors.

Personally, I'd apply those effects after they're recorded. There will be too much latency if you try to process effects as well as record. With that aside, I'd check out Ableton Live. It's kind of pricey, but definately worth it if you can afford it.

Try N-Track as well, I haven't used the program much, but I've heard lots of good stuff about it. And it's really cheap ($50). Both of these have demos that you can try.

I think, unless you have NASA's latest super 'puter... you always gonna get some sorta delay :( Its often unmanagable to record whilst monitoring with lag too...

if you want your effects in real time, i would suggest investing in a soundcard with DSP. for $100 you could get an EMU 0404 which has harware monitoring and can add effects from its hardware. These effects would be heard in the trackig/monitoring, but would not be recorded. is that what you are looking for? then youcould use audition that you have already bought and save spending more dough on software
