i was reading the pdfs on how to solder the cables to the connectors but it didnt mention the use of a soldering cable. you know i always took the connector and the wire, then melted then with some zincsomething else as well solder cable to produce a larger connection. in the pdfs it sounded like you would melt the cable itself to the connector with no other material. any ideas here?

You can't melt the wire to the connector. What you do is heat the two things you wish to solder together with your soldering iron and then push your solder into the joint. The resulting connection shouldn't have an excessive amount of solder on it and it should have a shiny look to it. If it looks frosty, you have a "cold" solder joint and it's a problem waiting to happen. You'll get good results from most any rosen core solder. Never use acid core, thats for plumbing.
