i need to get 4 tracks out of an old tape machine that's rca and input them into the interface. so rca to 1/4". but i don't see any snakes with 4 cables on them the smallest i see is 8. would getting two sets of 2 work? then i can just have 4 instead of 8 and all that extra bulk.

thanks

Two sets of that Hosa CPR202 will work just fine.

No need to get the 8 channel snake if you don't need that many channels. 8 channel snakes just happen to be a common number of channels people buy at once.

thanks srrules for teaching me something new.. i'm glad the 4 work because it's cheaper and i didn't want all the bulk.

does the brand or anything else matter on these cables or are cheap ones fine?

Hosa will be just fine for what you are using them for. Better cables are more durable for when they get moved around a lot. Hosa is just fine for something that just gets installed and left alone. I had a few hosa snakes in my studio that I bought in 1996 that were still working perfectly in 2014 when I dismantled the studio. I probably still have them in a box somewhere...

I have several Hosa cables and a few patch snakes, no issues with them.

I've got so many of those Hosa snakes in various configurations that I can't even tell you how many I have. Many of them are pushing 20 years old. I've ripped a number of them apart to get down to singles and pairs. Out of literally hundreds of channels worth I've only ever had maybe five go flakey on me.

For the future, you didn't even need 2 sets of 2...four individual cables would have worked as well.

If you want to make the Hosa cables into a "mini snake", a cable tie every foot or two will do the job. Don't forget to label both ends of each cable (even just numbers) to avoid a lot of cursing a trial and error later.

thanks bobbsy I will label them. I always forget to do things like that and do go crazy, but then I still forget. I'm a scatter brain.
your reminder will help so thanks

I am wondering what i need to get for a cable as i am trying to have enough channels to send 8 mics, to an interface and have enough returns to fill a mackie pro xl back to plug in head phones.
What kind of snake do i need?

He Craig,

Your best way forward is probably to start a new thred and outline the gear you have and what you need to do. I'm not sure what a 'Pro XL' from Mackie is...
