hey, im getting my recording setup... and just wondering what the next move should be... im thinking maybe a stronger vocal mic, like an NTK and then maybe an RNP?

Delta 1010
(deciding on monitors)
AKG C2000b
MK012(x2)
Peavey Pvm 520i
a few sm57s/58s/beta58s
Mackie 1604 Vlz Pro

Um. Please dont bash me to hard, I'm just a kid and I'm just getting started! But I read this board all the time and have learned so much from all of you, so im just trying to make wise decisions. Looking for opinions on what i should be looking at next...

thanks!

That's not a bad idea at all.

. . . Maybe decide on those monitors first, though. :D

yeah... i sort of realized for monitors the only way is just to go into guitar center or something and try them out until i find the ones i like. but yeah.. monitors are definately the next thing :)

im sort of doing the thing where i imagine i have money to buy stuff. and planning out how to spend the money when it somehow comes into existance.

You know you'll very likely drive yourself mad doing that, don't you?

yeah... it's like all i think about.

sometimes i dream about demoing mics too...

;)

Hmmm. So what ones do you like best, then (in your dreams)? Any recommendations?

some insanely expensive german mic that fits my voice perfectly in the dream... haha.

Rocket Boy, try directed dreaming. In my dream, the perfect sound on my voice is achieved using a cheap used dynamic. I use the money from my best new artist Grammy to buy an insanely expensive German mic. I use it to record Madonna.-Richie

Hey, I'm just trying to pick up some tips.

That way, if I say a particular mic is really outstanding, and someone else counters with "In your dreams," I can then say "Exactly."

Well, I happen to have them and although they cost more than 40 times the cheapest LCD I have, they don't sound 40 times better.

Actually -and I've said this in an earlier post- I was recording vocals a couple of weeks ago and had put a 100 euro SP mic next to the 4k Neumann.

Three of the four bandmembers didn't hear any difference (of course there was a significant difference).

They should either cut down smoking pod in your studio, or get their ears checked; and if it turnes out that they are fine, I offer to recycle your German mics for free. Just send them to me -- I'd even send you a dynamic mic back for free. That'll make both your band members, me, and the environment happy :D

Definitely get some monitors. The KRK V4s are supposed to be very nice for $499 pair.
