My dad got this reel-to-reel from his cousin so my dad could record some of his old newscasts from the 70s he had on reel-to-reel and dump them on a computer. Well his cousin has no use for it really anymore, so he suggested I use it. Now, I'm not going to learn how to splice tapes (my dad had to learn years ago) but I can edit it on the computer. It's not really a multitrack thing, I'll describe it...

Make: "AKAI 4000DS MKII"
Date: Sometime in the 70s is all I know

It has a headphone jack, an odd mic input with left and right inputs, 2 mic line knobs (??)

A few buttons for:
MONITOR TAPE, S.O.S, EQUALIZER, TAPE SELECTOR

Not a multitracker, I know, he told me that his cousin probably knows a way how to do so, but I can't really see how. Um, it also has a line in and out at the back. I already had an 8 track mixer but do you guys suggest what I could use this for? Thanks.

1-use it as a mixdown deck
2-record 1 or 2 tracks for flavor before dumping to your favorite medium-then enjoy trying to line up tracks since it prolly doesnt have SMPTE....might not be too bad if your recording to computer

AKAI 4000ds

i have 6 of those machines i only use 2 of them but at 7 1/2 ips it works well of analog mixdows.
