Hey everyone, It's my first post in here.
My first language is not english, so forgive me for some mistakes.
I'm starting in the whole recording thing and I'm getting some troubles. I don't have any special hardware. I'm using the Mic on my SoundCard (SoundMax ADI1988) to record. Regarding software, I currently use Adobe Audition and some VSTi (RevalverMK II as a virtual amp and effects to my guitar and EzDrummer for Drums).
I tried covering the song Everlong, from Foo Fighters. I recorded about six guitar tracks. Most of the time there are only 2 or 3 tracks at the same time. When recording, I try to not "blow" the audio (I don't know if this is the right term, but I mean avoiding the level reaching the maximum), as I think this is the correct thing to do to guarantee the audio is not being distorted.
When I add the drums and bass and put the whole thing to play together, the master level stays in the maximum almost the whole song, and I can hear a lot of noise as a consequence of this. Ok, to correct this I tried changing the levels on each track individually until I get an good result overall. The problem is that when I do this, the song itself becomes some kind of a mess. The guitar is too low, the bass is to high, and the overall volume of the track is very low (I need to hear it on the maximum volume of my earphone, when in "real" music I leave at the middle).
What tips or advices can you give to avoid getting this kind of problem? Is this a recording problem? Mixing?
EDIT.: I tried posting a picture and a sample, but the forum tells me that I need 5 posts to do so
Sorry.
Thanks in advance,
Fergo
