I am really brandnew to home recording. I want to record some guitars, flutes etc. no real fancy stuff really. I was thinking about buying a Yamaha or Tascam 4 track casette recorder, as they are affordable. I guess these machines are on average 18 years old on the second hand market.
I could also buy some software and additional hardware (AD converters i guess) for my PC, to be able to record with mikes What would I need then? With what route would I spent the least amount of money?
Thanks for your replies...

If you can get yourself an older Tascam Syncoset 4 track, pick one up. They work real well and are good to learn on. If you want to go all digital, you just need to have a good soundcard and a mic preamp to use with some type of recording software like cakewalk or cubase. Read alot on the BBS here and shop before you buy.

Good luck and welcome to the board!

Recording flutes? You may need a decent Condenser mic...

i second what moskus says.
if you already have a computer, find out what the specs are and look into some sort of digital recording software.
heres a good place to start looking into it-

this should be enough to get you started. if you find it interesting and you like it, you'll only want to upgrade later on.
you can always come back here for support and questions.
good luck!

I third what moskus said............................

You would be infintesimally (sp?) better off, with a PC setup, than with the old cassete recorder setup.

;)

Give us a list of you budget, computer spec, and the number of INS/OUTS you need.

Armed with that information, we will be able to steer you in the correct direction.
