What to buy?

If anyone can advise me I'd much appreciate it. I'm about to record a 'budget' album with my band in the hope that the sales we get from it will fund the proper album so I have acquired a Fostex 4 track cassette recorder to do it on - we're fans of 'vintage' recordings ie delta blues and that, if we could get this sort of sound though (listen to the preview) it would be ideal:

So could anyone give any tips on what mics to use, positioning of mics, how to record vocals etc? Many thanks

Unless you are extremely lucky and well-placed you will spend more money on equipment than you can make selling CDs!

Probably true...any idea how the above recording would have been done though?

I can't say im the best person to answer this, but a lot will be down to the musicianship and instruments/amps rarther than recording equipment. Does your band sound like that live?

Well yes pretty much But from the sounds of that can anyone tell specifically how it was recorded? ie guitars plugged straight in
