hi, i'm new to the forum, and new to the whole recording side of things but i've been playing guitar for a few years now, i'm gonna be buyin' a 8/16 track soon and with so much out there i'm not really sure what to go for, i need something thats very easy to use, cd burning capabilites and plenty of fx's would be nice but far from essentail, the only must have is at least 8 track simultaneously recording, so any ideas would be sweet

Welcome to the fold, Raven Dude... :D

First off, try this place...

http://www.tweakheadz.com/guide.htm

and...

What kind of gear do you have now and what's your budget? What kind of space do you have to record in? etc etc...

Inquiring minds and all that.... :)

all right dogbreath, i have a mixer and a couple of shure mics, what i want to do is buy the recorder and build from that, i have plenty of room as its going to be set up where i jam already, budget is $500 to $700 for the recorder

Are you going the compooter route or standalone? You said you need 8 inputs...is that for tracking drums? What else do you plan on recording? (If going computer, I'm no help. I don't use one.) What about pre's? Acoustic treatment? Try that Tweaks link and read thru it. It answers alot of questions. If you need more links on getting started and getting familiar with stuff, there's a bunch out there.....Ya got some homework my man..... :D

yea, i got some major shit to find out..., i have the option of going with the computer, i really hav'nt made my mind up i'm just tryin to suss it all out

hi, tks for all the info dogbreath hav'nt looked through it all in great detail yet but what i have has been very helpful, i'm leaning more to the side of multitrackers rather than pc mainly because of their portability, i am seriously thinking about going with the korg d888 which can be hooked up to the pc, this is just about in my price range but is there a cheaper alternative, dose anyone have any experience with the korg d888, i have found no reviews of it anywhere so i'm still undecided.

A side note to the pansy ass that neg repped me for recommending tweakheads....
#1...have you ever read thru it?
#2...if so, did you understand any of it?
#3...may fire ants and mosquitos infest your shorts.

Have a nice day. :D

Have a look at the presonus firepod. It's got 8 preamps, records 8 tracks of audio and being firewire will travel with your laptop, or plugged into you desktop

ok so i've changed my mind again and now i'm seriuosly going for the fostex vf160 ex, this looks ideal for me and at a great price, anyone got any experience with this one and has anyone use it to recored drums? from reading reviews it sounds good but could'nt find anything about how drum tracks came out, well what ye reakon...
