Farce of Nature
Ok.. I am working on two songs. The first one was recorded on my Epi. The tone is perfect. Everything fits like a glove. I work on the second song. The feel of it calls for a Strat, so I break out my Strat and work with amp combinations. I get a sound that hits you in the gut. Just what the song requires.

Listening to the playback, the guitars on the second song sound like crap.. but only if I listen to it after the first song. If I walk away, come back later and listen to the second song alone it sounds fine. However, when I reverse the order and listen to song #2 and then song #1, there is no problem.

What the hell? Do Strats sound aweful after the ear gets used to the warmer Epi/Les Paul sound? That makes no sense. Given the variety of songs on the radio you would think something like that would stand out. And what's even weirder is I listened to some Iron Maiden as a reference for the Strat sound. My guitars sound better than Maiden's (well, at least to my ears anyway)...

Am I losing my mind?

For the longest time I thought my timing was getting shittier and shittier. Come to find out it was always the same but my mind was getting more and more sensitive to pick up on slightly off time notes.

Yes, you are losing your mind.

The only solution is to send me all your gear immediately - that way we can stop this deterioration before any more damage occurs.

:D

Try re-recording the guitar parts on the second song with the Epiphone and then A/B the song with the Epi vs. the Strat.
