Hey guys, i record A LOT on my computer. I currently am running a P III 450, 196 meg RAM, 20 gig hard drive with a SB Live Value.
Ive been gettin great results. I want to upgrade my audio card...will i be able to get better results? I'm looking for 24 bit resolution..not necessarily 96k either...i keep looking for cost effective solutions but there is SO MUCH shit out there its hard to make a decision...

P.S. im on a budget! :-)

peace

Yeah, your audio recordings will sound better -- better cards typically have superior A/D converters with better dynamic range and lower noise floor.

There are some nice choices now in the sub-$200 price range. There's the M Audio Audiophile 2496 which has the same basic architecture as their Delta line but with two in and two out, plus a MIDI interface... a similar card in the Echo line is the Mia card; I think Aardvark has a similar product as well. Note that none of these will have on-board MIDI synths, though, so if you need that, you might want to keep the SB Live in the box as a synth/sampler.

Thanks AlChuck! yea, I have MIDI handled pretty much, just looking for a the better A/D coverters and resolution. Ive never recorded in 24 bit...it must be nice
