I dont know what the hell is going on with me. Im spending a lot of time looking at gear on these sites. Im pretty new at home recording although I have been a musician for years, and never paid much attention to mixers, etc.

I have built a small studio of which I will post pics of soon. I am enjoying reading and learning about this world as much as hitting the record button.

Im 48 years old, already been through all that midlife bullshit, but this has been a blast. I really enjoy that people will actually answer any question you may have about gear, recording, etc.

But I got to quit staring at this gear like Im in some kind of a trance. The Knobs!!! The buttons!!!! The cool colors!!!!!

All my stuff is analog and I fear I may start looking at digital stuff if I dont just hit the button and start recording.

I think its to late..I got to get out of my basement and see if it has quit snowing yet.

That's funny, I went from digital to analog and would never go back. :D ;)

Anyway, I think it'd be a lot easier to "just hit the button and start recording" on analog than on digital. If your thing is to start asap then load up some tape, mic a couple of things, check levels and you're done! :D

Disclaimer: The above is just my own opinion. Your milage may vary ..
;)

Speaking of "knobs, buttons and cool colors" (not to mention spinnin' reels ;) ) .. Wouldn't you rather work with something like this ? :D

The Jungle Room Sessions!

Interesting choice of words, Dave, as this is my favorite Elvis album (but you knew that already ;) )! IMHO one of the very best engineered, "unsweetened", "home recordings" ever! Doesn't matter if you're an Elvis fan or not (or of this type of material), you gotta check out The Jungle Room Sessions! The most natural sounding stuff ever! That's what I strive for when I think "home recording", purely from an audio engineering standpoint. :)

Although my fav CD, it is not the one in the photo. Let me give you a hint: His show was broadcast on public television (KCTS) some months back. You know him very well and so do all people on this board. Any guesses ? ;)

Chaos & Creation in the Back Yard, by...

Paul McCartney!

So,... what do I win? ;)
(Something with spinning parts, flashing lights and colored knobs, I hope!!)

Correct! You win!!! :D :D

The TV special was one of the most memorable McCartney performances I've seen. Made me buy the CD, even tho I tend to prefer the live show of same title. ;)

Can't recall ... did Sir Paul say this was a Studer or MCI 4 track (on the left) ?
