What specs does my new mac need?

Hi there,
I'm upgrading to a new mac soon, preferably a Macbook Pro 15" with or without retina. Right now I'm using a Focusrite saffire pro 40, which can record 8 channels at a time, but I would like to upgrade this to 16 channels at a time, by attaching a Octopre MKII. So now I'm wondering, what specs do I need to be able to handle the recording of 16 tracks at a time?

I'm on a 13" 2514m macbook pro. I never record more than 8 at a time but I have no reason to believe it wouldn't carry off 16 without issue.

I'd make certain you're recording to a secondary hard drive though. Firewire/thunderbolt would probably be the best bet.

Not a solid answer, I know. Maybe someone else can say for certain.
