hey!

I'm trying to decide between a Pentium and a Mac, whats the better computer for recording with. I want to be able to run at least 8 tracks simotaneously with each ending up on a different track in the computer. What soundcard would i need to do this.

any ideas, help, recommendations, would be greatly appreciated

Thanx!!!

it's my understanding that macs are better machines for audio intense applications, but I dont intend to go out and buy one as I use a PC and it does just fine. Look for an audio card with 24bit capabilities, like the delta series for starters at www.midiman.com
If your looking at PC, build one, dont buy off the shelf. You can build a system around your audio needs. And by all means do some research and read thru the threads.
Good Luck

I used to use a PC and thought they were OK for recording but nothing special cos I had used friends macs! last week I bought a whole new studio that is mac based and I now use a Mac G3 and it is the Dogz! These things are out of this world! honestly! The Pro use them so mac must be doing some thing right!
U can use a iMac G3 quite effceintly for recording with excellent results! The are some Pro's using these thigns for mulitmedia and now a days they are excellent prices u can pick one that will do alot more for the same priced PC.
Mac's are all about ease of use.
I would definatly advise a mac to any one!
Take alook at the www.cancomuk.com site at the referbished mac's I think they will deliver to USA but im not sure they are the cheapest quality macs u will find!
How much money have u got to spend o the computer/Soundcard/Audio interface (if u get a mac!)
P.s. Before I get any abuse! I am not a hater of PC's because they can do an alright job of audio applications occasionally but I also realise that Mac's are excellent (well alot and I would say the best) for Multimedia in a whole not just audio application even tho thats what I use mine for!

I was a straight up PC guy, completely. I use and abuse them all day at work, and I feel I know my way around them pretty well. I was so confident in them that I went ahead and set up my Pro Tools 001 on a PC back when everyone told me it would never work very well. It worked and worked well, though you really DID have to know your way around the OS and machines pretty well. I also use MACs at work and felt ok with using these on a fairly high level, but still felt them "inferior" and for "the marketing and advertising" people.

So, last month a buddy bought up some g3 and g4's for his consulting company and I bought one of them off of him. Figured I would try my Digi 001 in it and see how I liked it.

Long story long: I LOVE the Mac for audio. It was SO easy, it is SO stable and it is so much quieter for audio work. I don't think I will go back now. The PC is still there and still my workhorse, but for my audio...90% will probably be done on a Mac now.

DISCLAIMER!!!!!!!!!!
***The above as NOT meant to start the Pc vs Mac war***

As u can see people are very bias to PC's as they seem to be the cheaper optin but hteir not! Time is mony and with a Mac it is so simple and as Clark said the mac's are definatly more stable alot more stable! :)

MAC are fucking great BUT anything u can do with a MAc u can Do with a PC Build the PC to ur requirements simple as that but i agre MAc are more Stable But if you build a PC for Audio applications it can do the exact same things

They do the same thing!
But u have to remeber the Mac is more stable and has a more usable interface and is less hassle than a PC if any thing goes wrong!

thanx guys
it sounds like i should go with the mac, which is what i thought. what are some minimum recommended specs i should have.

thanx

I don't know anything about computers

How much money do you have to spend?

That will probably be your defining basis. :(
