Echo seems to wanting to go in this direction as they have (Beta) 2000 drivers, and mention Athlon. The problem with Athlon has more to do with the chipsets used with the Athlon than the Athlon itself. So basically, the problems is not as easy as "Does it work with TBird". As I am looking for a new recording system for my new 1.2 GHz system with W2000 - this question weighs heavily on me as well. I've been trying to compile a list of the info I acquire. Will post it, when its done.
From the Echo site:
"Where are the NT / Win2000 drivers? We have recently released the Windows NT and Windows 2000 beta driver publicly, and have documented all known issues and bugs. You can find these drivers for Darla, Gina, Layla, Darla24, Gina24,
Layla24 and Mona here."
Also from Echo:
"AMD Athlon processors work great with Echo Digital Audio hardware. You will need a motherboard with one of the following chipsets:
AMD 760 ( Sometimes referred as 761 & 762)
VIA KX-133
VIA KT-133
These chipsets are now available on motherboards from numerous manufacturers. Click this link to get a list of manufacturers using this VIA chipset (
http://www.via.com.tw/support/partnerskx133.htm ). Motherboards using the AMD 750 chipset are not compatible with Echo Digital Audio hardware."
There are many motherboards like ASUS, TYAN, Etc. that work great. The only known board that we do not recommend at this time is ABIT."
Alas - my board is an ABIT.
