Can anyone tell me what kind of sound deadening panels they've used in thier studios? I'm building a studio in my basement (new home) and have found one brand called Homasote. Another kind I saw was these DOW 1/2 brownish-styrofoam looking panles with black foil on both sides. I plan to use the following wall construction:

5/8 sheetrock
Sound deadener panel
Stud (with insulation)
Sound deadener panel
1/2 sheetrock

So I need to know what the people are using for sound deadeners??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

See the Acoustics FAQ, second in the list on my Articles page:

It's a long read, but worth the effort if you want to understand acoustic treatment.

See the thread "Soundboard over/under drywall" regarding these panels. There are many considerations in choices of materials, but absorption via resistance in wall materials is not a good choice. If you are having reflection problems, the use of Owens Corning 703 rigid fiberglass panels in strategic locations is a favored practice. There is tons of information regarding this here. I suggest you do a search on same. If sound transmission is your problem, much discussion has been posted here. See Acoustechs threads regarding helping people, as he has all the correct answers to specific problems.
