I'll add another vote for NI synths...Massive, Absynth, FM8...all really solid synthesizers. Reaktor confuses the shit out of me though.

FabFilter's Twin 2 is another really good synth I've been using quite a bit lately, looking at picking up some of the sound sets for it soon too, they sound groovy.

OP, ignore the bickering and pay attention to what they're telling you. Both programs will get you what you want, as will basically any DAW software. I produce every type of music imaginable using Reaper as the main DAW along with Kontakt, Omnisphere, Superior Drummer and other VSTi's. Ableton will get you there, Sonar will get you there, etc. All these programs have trial demos, so...try them Reaper, as far as I know, is the only one that gives you the completely uncrippled program to try before you buy.

Sampler is $129..and isnt a sample player like kontakt it is also for making samples..

I make Drum & Bass tracks with limited success, something the OP mentioned they'd also like to, I could do that in Reaper..it would take quite a bit more time and many of the tools Id utilise would be missing...this can be done in the $99 version of Live..the $699 version is a bloated programme filled with loops and items like latin percussion etc, hardly required for the OPs needs

The OP has to decide where the balance is. Also stating the need to record vox, guitar and bass. I think R handles audio better than any other app I have tried ( and I have "wasted" a fair amount of money on other apps ) Threads like these help.

no its not $228 all in...its $228 if you purchase sampler as an option, its $16000 if you purchase it with a volkswagen jetta as an option, its $750000 if you purchase it with a 3 bedroom house in mission hills san diego as an option....
