say I had 2 overheads, 1 kick and 1 snare

how would I record those into 4 separate tracks into acid 4.0? is that even possible with just a simple multi input soundcard or do I need ... what is it ... that tascam 808?

what is the cheapest solution without compromising quality of what's coming in through the mic's... can anyone explain their setup to me? thanks.

If you are talking about all 4 tracks at the same time, ACID will not do the job for you - ACID only records one track at a time. Sonic Foundry's Vegas would let you do this, but you said cheapest solution, so you probably want to go check out something like Cool Edit Pro or a Cakewalk product.

no someone had some sort of hardware mixing board where they could load 4 to 8 channels of whatever they had recorded on to separate tracks on acid 4.0... I mean cheapest hardware solution... if it's software that I need... what's the best multi tracking software to get? the best of the best... without hardware (ie not protools)

i use vegas and i have an ECH MIA MIDI soundcrd which is pretty nice u can do 4 ins on that ,it was 200 bucks out the door from guitar center

Then that "harware mixing board" is more than you think - probably a hard disc recorder or something because ACID will not record more than one track at a time. You can either record each track seperately, or record seperate tracks some other way and then bring them into ACID.

any easy way of transporting cool edit recorded waves into acid automatically? =\

Yes. Find the tracks that you want to transfer by using the EXPLORER window in Acid. HIGHLIGHT the tracks you want to import>right-click, then press ADD TO PROJECT. Once the have been inserted into your project, highlight one track at a time>then goto the TRACK PROPERTIES tab>TRACK TYPE>ONE-SHOT.
