What is an easy Music Software where I can make rap beats with out Midi Keyboard and all that? I downloaded Reason Demo and it is really really hard for me to understand.. Thanks

It's difficult!!!! The window doesnt get big, the one I downloaded already comes with beats on it, and I can't make a beat when I try too.. it wont record easily like lets say cubase.

I have expierence with out recording programs.

Doesn't matter. Reason is the ONLY program that will record rap. There's filters on the other ones.

Do I need a keyboard to make a bass beat? or could I make one on here? I know other programs offer a keyboard on the program itself but this one doesnt, and from what I can tell this one doesn't offer doesn't offer any sound making modules.

What programs have you used in the past?

cakewalk project5 has a good instrument selection except a lot of the drums are kind of weak. You can probably work past it though. The interface is designed in a grid that corresponds to a keyboard. Its still a lot easier to have an actual keyboard in front of you when you are trying to come up with a melody though. My midi keyboard was probably less than $30 and it fits for the job.

Don't get fruityloops, that's like the worst program I've ever used. All the sounds it comes with are useless and hard to manipulate, and it is more difficult to find sound packs online than people say it is. either that or I'm retarded.

the only problem is that cakewalk likes to make money so if you want more stuff than you'll have to start buying more programs. Project5 is fine by itself if you are just making beats but then if you want to record and be able to do anything with your vocals you have to get sonar. I think project5 has a demo version.

I disagree slightly

reason is not the only prog to use for rap beats. I use FL Studio 5, 6 & 7 are out now. There are tons of features like reason and it's less complicated. Plus you can use your Pc keyboard as a keyboard.
:D

Oh yeah, I forgot about FL Studio. Reason and FL Studio are the only two programs that will record rap.

Nobody's going to realize that Ez Willis is being funny, eh? lol

Anyway, no matter what software/workstation u get, the key is going to be your drums, which u're NOT going to find in presets. U can eather learn how to sample/edit/beef up drums yourself or make good friends with somebody who has a killer drum sound library.

What's your budget, btw?

May I also add a word for the wise. If you're using reason, download recycle. As for FL Studio, you can put in instruments directly in the patches folder. One should never complain about not having enough instruments when you can cut/sample almost anything with a recording program eg. Cool Edit.

If you hear a snare you like, copy itand use it (use recycle after copying to convert to peason format, FL Studio files should be saved as wav format).

Great advice, guys.

Dude is complaining that the Reason demo is too hard for him to understand. Chances are pretty good all of it will go right over his rap beat making head.

Can you say "sarcasm"?

Iv been making beats iwth nutting excpets fl studio 6, not veen a midi....

There's always going to be debate on which software is good for this....what synth is great for that. While there are some that belong in the front of the pack, the real truth is that your sound is going to be what you make it. I don't like fruity loops but I've squeezed more than a few great things from it. Why? Mainly because I'm talented (sounds egotistical but we all think we're talented to some extent - else we wouln't be trying to do this music shit for a living) and partially cause the sounds and samples that were PUT INTO IT (by the user) were good.

I'm an R&B guy. Used to do Rap/Hip Hop and still do occassionally. Things that have served me well in both reguards are MPC-2000, Roland XP-50, Yamaha Motif ES, Roland Fantom-X (current), and yes...Reason. Right now I use the Fantom for pretty much everything but like I said before - what I get out of the Fantom is what I put into it. I sample, edit, and mangle my own drums (mostly kicks and snares/rims), I edit my own basses (the presets are pure garbage), and pretty much every other sound I use.

You can ask "what's the best thing for making _____" and get a million different responses. At the end of the day, it's going to come down to how good YOU are...
