Hi,

First question here, first post for that matter. Anyway, I just added another ATAT to my home studio. My current snake is the 1/4 unbalanced. Can/should I use the TRS cables with ADAT/ MACKIE? Thanks

If you are talking about an ADAT machine, you can use a balanced (TRS or XLR) snake that has an ELCO connector on the other end. Otherwise, you are stuck using the unbalanced RCA ins and outs.

If memory serves: The RCA i/o is -10 and the elco i/o is +4

Woops, yes sorry, ADAT blackface. Could I just use 1 16 channel TRs/TRS for each ADAT into and out of the Mackie? Thanks

No, your ADAT doesn't have TRS inputs or outputs. Look on the back of the thing.

I just thought I'd ask. They are 1/4 jacks and I was not sure if the snake should be TRS or plain 1/4.

Sorry, got confused. The ADAT XT had the rca jacks for the unbalanced -10 i/o. Your Blackface has unbalanced 1/4 for the -10 input.

For a balanced connection, you need to get the snake with the multi-pin connector.

I have two elcos and two adats sitting here doing nothing for years, maybe I should sell them.

Thanks much, looks like the Elco is the way I'm going to go, makes the install much cleaner. Thanks for the help, I know I'm a bit retro with my equipment. I still use My 3340S too. Anyway, much appreciated.

Elco would be the 'tidiest' method, and certainly the one I'd choose if I could find a cable quick and cheap, but if you're stuck with unbalanced 1/4", I wouldn't sweat it - noise will very unlikely be an issue even with an unbalanced connection. Elco's are cool though.
