What should i mix-down to?

I have a 24 channel mixer, and 8 channels of output on my soundcard... these are routed to 8 channels on my mixer so i can mixdown vocals by hand. I end up with the exact result i want... but when i re-record back to my PC and play it back it just doesnt do the mixdown justice. I was thinking about buying a 2-track recorder of some sort, maybe digital/CD.. or should i go for analogue? I simply want to maintain the sound i hear out of my speakers on the mixdown instead of losing such a large amount of quality...

Mixing digital with very high quality converters is the best bet for capturing exactly what you are hearing at the console. A good analog machine is the way to go if you want it to sound better than what you are hearing at the console.
