Era Escape
Hi, I'm currently in the market for a laptop to record my music on. I don't need more than two input channels, as everything I want to record will be solo project stuff. I want to run cubase and reason w/rewire on it, and have a USB midi controller going into reason. Because I'm not planning on recording on more than two channels, I'm thinking I'll do all my recording into the soundcard, not through an interface. I'm not sure what brands or specifications to look at when shopping for a laptop, and I would also like to be able to consider a used laptop. What should I look for in a laptop for this?

Thanks!

Look for a laptop with
1. Firewire port
2. 1GB ram
3. 5400rpm disk
4. A 'mobile' cpu, ie not a regular P4

The onboard soundcard is likely to be nasty to check out a firewire interface like the Presonus Inspire

I did some looking up of "mobile" processors and the pentium M and the AMD turion 64 came up. Would either of these processors be suited for what I want to do? Is one better than the other for the stuff I want to do?

Theft insurance and major no-questions-asked warranty service for as long as you are going to own the damn thing.

Get the AMD Duo (i.e Turon x2) processors.
Seems like the Intel Laptops have serious firewire issues...
