What should I do with empty rackspace?

I would suggest a 4U case. This will allow you to mount a "normal" motherboard (AT/ATX) and the regular computer components. I found a used one, in excellent condition, at a used computer parts store locally for $15.00! It included an FIC board, a NIC and even some RAM. A real deal!
 
Yeah the 4u case is nice. I tried a 3u, but it was too squishy. There's plenty of room in the 4u for soundproofing & better airflow too. I scored a case that had been modded to 16" deep which was sweet for my rack.

Have you guys ever been in a physics lab? They have the coolest things with the weirdest buttons & blinking lights in their racks!
