Hey, I just put in about 3 months of "recording" into a 4 song demo along with 2 other guys and we are FINALLY ready to mix. I have some decent studio monitors (ALESIS MK11) and the recording sounds awesome, so I want to get the most out of my mixing situation, basically I don't wanna fuck it up after all this hard work!!! my question is what type of room to mix in? Large living room?(more of an open space) or smaller bedroom, which is where my studio is setup? I know about the acoustics and all that shit, but am wondering if anyone can give me any suggestions from experience. I have mixed in my bedroom before and things turn out nice but I am always looking to improve. The music is all acoustic rock with electric bass and various hand drums, shakers, etc. please get back with any info! and thanks as always! peace , the d u d e !!!

Do a google search on control room acoustics.

Generally speaking a smaller dead room is best especially if you have nearfeild monitors like the Alesis. You don't want a room with equal demensions...like a square because the sound can cause a standing wave that could distort the monitoring accuracy and exaggerate bass levels. You don't want the monitors in the center of the room for the same reason. avoid semmetry but don't set up in a corner either. Some things to avoid are hollow core doors and rooms with many large reflective surfaces.

Heres a google search..
