I have a full stack I'm thinking of selling so I can upgrade... worth about 1,200 (it's Crate). If it's in good condition (which it is), what should I try to sell it for? Or any gear, for that matter? 2/3 the price ($800)? Little more than half ($600-700)? Try to find a sucker that thinks he's getting a deal and charge him MORE? ($1,650,000,000,000.....) :)
Go the Ebay way?

ripping off people on ebay isn't really cool... but you should try to get decent cash for it if it works..

I have trouble believing anything made by Crate is WORTH $1200. Even a full stack. I had a GX130C (paid $600 in '93) and was happy to get $150 out of it, even though I think its probably their best sounding solid state amp (thats not saying much). Good luck. Get what you can out of it.

Actually....

It's not a bad amp at all. The cabs retail at about 4-450 each, and the head about the same. It's a G(something) 1200H, I believe. It's a good amp for what you pay, the clean and the distortion channel are pretty good. Just that I got my eye on a much better one.....

Yeah, I'm sure its not terrible.

But all I'm saying is that if I want that "Crate" sound, I'll just mic a lawnmower, or a chainsaw.........wait, an electric toothbrush should do it just fine. But thats probably why you're selling it.

None the less, I've seen Crate cabs used for $150 to $200. I'm not sure about the head though. So, asking $600-$700 is probably a good starting place.

I have a mashall vs265r which I bought a year and a month ago, I new I didn't want it from the start (I'm not saying it's bad it's just far from being superb)-it's the top of the valvestate range, or at least was then, I should have taken it back but I didn't, it got the job done and has very descent power.

Anyway, I now want to sell this amp and get a real tube amp-marshall most likely-I did get it at a very good price at least to start with(usually when you buy something from a shop they are pleased for the custom, when I walk out with their produce they are horrified that I talked them into the give away prices/I'm a natural) but they say (part exchange) they will give me half of the retail price as long as it's in good condition. It doesn't make much difference the fact that it's only just a year old (I have never gigged with it as when I gig I borrow marshall's or vox's (AC-30 naturally).

So I'm pissed off with this loss of money. I will try to sell it myself first and reckon I can retain at least 75% of what I paid for it initially.

So-try and sell it yourself first before part-exchanging it, as long as there's nothing wrong with it you can get away with charging what you like-try and push for around 75% of value, you may have to barter a little though.
