Okay heres the list of mics I have...

2 SM-57's
2 Oktava MK-319's
2 Oktava MC-012's
1 Oktava MKL-2500 (hey I just couldn't pass up the sale at GC)
1 EV Cobalt C07
1 Shure KSM27
1 Omni Radiocrap mic

Heres the list of pres I have...

1 DBX 386
1 Joemeek 3Q
1 Bellari MP-105

thats it I don't have a mixer...

I think I need a pre ( I know I don't actually NEED one) but give me a few suggestions here...

Keep in mind I'm poor and my wife bitches about every new piece of gear I bring home. :D

Send me all your gear, and tell her you're getting out of the music business. She'll be real happy.... :D

(Sorry dude, I got nothing..... )

What makes you think you need another preamp? What are you looking for that the preamps you have aren't giving you?

not what there not giving me it's what they are giving me... unwanted color.

i have a lot of the same mics your do ( mk012, ksm27, sm75 ).

I have an A-designs MP-2 and a Rane ms-1b. The MP-2 is my go-to pre (obviously, it costs about 10x as much as the Rane). However, the Rane works really well with the mc012 on acoustic and the ksm 27 on acoustic/vocals. I greatly prefer the sound of a 57 going into a nice tube pre, but the Rane ms-1b definitely gets some use, and for ~$100, it's a steal.

You know, in all honesty, the things that will make your mics shine is more about the source and the correct mic placement, much more than a pre.
It all starts there. I know it is a cliche, but it IS the truth, you know.

I've done commercial albums for major labels with just two different types of mic pre. It is really starting at the source.

get somethng with a transformer coupled input . get a pre amp with no opamps then you will hear a big difference
