I'm interested to know what power your PC's are and how many tracks you capture at once?
My band would like to be able to record 12 tracks at once and wondered what the least powered PC we could get away with?

Thanks

I can Probably record 16-24 Tracks at once on my system if I don"t use any Effects or plugins and I have a Lowly 2.6ghz Celeron D CPU with 512mb DDR ram and a 80gb HD (Paid $180 New last year)....

What really sucks up your PCU power is the Plugins and effects , I can Probably use 8 or 10 plugins at once before I get a Major slowdown of my PC.....

Most anything new by Intel like there dual Core CPU"s will be Plenty fast enough to record 24 tracks with plugins without any Problems as these new Dual cores are smokin Fast and quite affordable....

Cheers

Wow.

I have no intention of using plugins while recording. I just want to get the signals through the mixer (maybe Phonic Helix) and then mess with the tracks after.
I've been offered an AMD 64 3000+, 1 gig memory and 200 gig SATA HD for a bargain.
Do you think its up to the job?

I have a 6 year old PC that can record 2 tracks at once just fine with some plugins, I'm guessing it could handle up to 8-10 without plugins. But I don't need to record more than 2 tracks at once so I don't know.

AMD 1.2 GHz
512 MB PC 2700 RAM
80GB Western Digital 7200 RPM hard drive

My computer was real sluggish before I got some more RAM. Wish this motherboard supported faster RAM though.

I can support up to around 24-32 tracks at once. I'm running a pentium d 930 3ghz, 2gb pc5400 ddrII 667, a seagate 160gb & 300gb 3.0Gb/s HD's and 7900GS

I can record up to 32 tracks max or so. That's way more than enough for me as I only require 16 tracks at the most.

i think thats a good setup that someone offered you.

of course, what the hell do i know, imma mac guy...

as far as i know- i can handle any amount tracks if i have the right hardware ;)

with what i have right now, i can do all 18 tracks, at 96k with ease.

powermac.. yummmm..

a local studio uses my exact computer setup, with an HD2 System, thats 64 tracks @ 192k.

"FUCK U MOTHER FUCKING BITCH ASS 16 YEAR OLD NEWBIE ASS WHITE MOTHER FUCKER"

thats nice???

it was grey too.. asshole.

lemme see you so i can rep rape you.

i'm a newbie? i know quite a bit. obviously more than you.

madd racist.. can dragon look into that? find out who gave that to me?

I received so many neg reps like that...it really ticks me off. But then I don't really care since i don't like to compensate with some of these forum idiots. Oh well, i can't do anything about it.

its ok, i'm a rep whore.. not that it affected me whatsoever- but i dont like being called a white ass bitch..

what does that have to do with anything..

if i called this guy a black ass bitch, it'd be a real problem though right? he'd make a huge deal out of it.

geez... whatever. someones jealous i think.

Screw the dude...some stupid loser who has nothing better to do than jerk off infront of his computer screen..

Really? I'd laugh myself silly if someone called me a white ass bitch??

If you have someone you think did it, put them on your ignore list. The rep will disappear if it's the right person, exposing the culprit.

just let it slide, they obviously don't know what they talking about... I see that there's mad cats around this forum (like other forums though) that have nothing better to do, but hate on you. Fuck em

yeah i dont have a clue who it was, i dont care too much either.

please resume talking of track counts.

I realize how much insert effects and vsti's kill your CPU performance.....

yes.

thats really the bulk of the CPU load. if you run zero plug's, you really can get crazy with the track count. i dont know nuttin bout VST though.. it's called RTAS in protools world :D , i think they are the same concept.
