I know it unscrews in the middle...But what other parts can come off??....I tugged gently at the plastic part and it seems like it can come off but I wanted to check with you guys first.

Why would you want to disassemble a perfectly good SM-57?- Richie

Don't try and take off the "plastic part" that protects the diaphragm. First of all, its a Chinese puzzle to put back together, and chances are you'll ruin the diaphragm trying to put it back on. The wiring for the coil is microscopic and easily broken. Keep the mic together. No reason to take it apart unless its already broken.

I agree with Richie.........

...WHY would you do this anyways?

If you want to see how a mic is made, just pick up some of the crap they sell at Wal-Mart or Radio Shack and tear that apart!!!

Well I wanted to change the grille cause it has a tiny dent on it and I want my mics to look nice...:D

Well I dont care how it looks but I just wanna know if the little dent on the grille will affect anything

LoudScaryGuitar - try it and see. Tearing it apart wont tell if its working or not.

Blue Bear - You mean radio shack and wal-mart mics are crap?!!:eek:
Man, :( now I have to rebuild my mic locker!:mad:

I havent done anything!......Of course I am not going to take it apart unless you guys tell me it is safe and apparently it isnt....I just wanted to change the damaged grille because I thought that it might affect the sound or whatever......:)

If the dent is in middle of the grill then leave the mic alone.
SM-57's come like that.

Leave the mic alone anyway. You can't kill an SM-57 anyway, except by disassembling it, which will do far more harm to it than any dent ever would. Stop obsessing and go mic a guitar cab.-Richie

SM57 = $99

Curious = Priceless.

LoudScaryGuitar, you're curious type of.. whatever. Go break it. Make a damn sure you learn EVERYTHING you can about it. Even "Damn, I shouldn't break it..." is a lesson worth than a single used SM57 itself. If you're realy into it, I believe you'll find away to get a new one somehow. Remember, every genius "brake his SM57" to develop his talent... But if you're not sure, then don't. Leave it alone.
