Hello! I am about to purchase a laptop soon and I'm torn... I don't know what to get. This will be my main machine, gaming and all, but I figure (with the exception of video) if it can do recording, it can do any of the other things I'll need it to do.
Anyways, my budget is $2000 MAX and I will have the money next week (took out a student loan
).
I am primarily looking at Dell 9100's for P4 and 8600's for Centrino, which, although are around the same price for what I want/need, the P4 is heavier and the battery won't last as long, but is much more powerful. Also in consideration is the less expensive Compaq with a Athlon 64 in it. I know the difference between 32-bit, 64-bit, etc. and that I will only be running 32-bit apps (unless I get a little crazy with Linux
, but would this give me any advantage?
Which do you guys think would be the best for recording? I'm kind of leaning towards the 9100 with a P4, but if the A-64 will do as well or close, I'd rather get it because I can get it and a new DVD burner plus pay off some on my new Hughes and Kettner Triamp... lol. All opinions are appreciated!
