OK, yes I am a newbie...and I hope I am starting on the right foot. My question is where do I go from here? Because of the financial aspect, I am forced to do things slowly. Here is where I am at right now. Oh yeah, I write/sing/play r&b/Soul/HipHop so that is the direction I am trying to go here.

1)Celeron 333mHz w/64meg ram and a 3gig HD (I know that is soft but I don't know if I should go to a VS type console or upgrade the pc)

2)CakeWalk Pro Audio 9.0

3)Roland XP-30 synth.

4)Roland MK-8 Monitors.

Other than mics, what would be your next recomendation?

DEFINATELY GET A RECORDER OF SOME KIND U WILL NEED IT, ESPECIALLY WITH THAT COMPUTER...OR JUST TO GET UR MUSIC OUT OF YOUR HOUSE ......UNLESS UR PUTTING IT ON THE WEB. BUT STLL GET ONE FOR BACK UP

If your serious about working with Cakewalk,
I would boost that ram up and get a fast 20gig
external Hard Drive.

Nilbog, I have a Twenty Inch Monitor. Thats what the chicks
REALLY dig.

Cpos, before you get any more ram or hard drive,
consider whether you want to put it in a 333 Celeron.
The way prices are dropping You could probably get
a new computer for a little investing.

I agree with Nilbog. All those different color peak led meters and flashin' lites on my outboard gear really pulls in the honeys. But I still need the computer to e-mail them! :)

ok

If you only had one option, which would you choose??

1) Purchase a VS-880ex(or something similar) and use the pc/cakewalk for sequencing.

2) Upgrade the PC and scrap the idea for a HD Digital.

I am on a quest to start this building process but this is my starting point and I am stuck. Financially, I can only go one way or the other.

I would go PC. More control, flexibility, midi etc.

The main reason though, Upgrades. Cakewalk will come
out with version 10 someday, then 11, 12........

You can always add more ram, hard drives, soft
synths, sound cards, etc down the road if you
have a lot of slots.

If you buy that 16 track stand alone today, take it
to Korg (or whoever) in three years and say "Geez
Mr. Korg, the Technology has changed a lot in the
past three Years, So here's your 16 track back and
give me that new version for a modest upgrade fee."

Guess what Good Ol' Mr. Korg is gonna say??

Good Luck, David
