I record hip hop and i have a mixer that i use as a pre-amp and a compressor along with a sm 57 and m-audio 2496. Are peoples recommendations after this? I don't know if i should buy hardware for an equalizer since i can do it with software. I'd like it all infront of me but is something else more important. This has probably come up before but i haven't been able to find much. Sorry if this is common subject. Any suggestions would be great. Please limit this to hardware because i know what i like in terms of software but pretty clueless when it comes to hardware. Also a different mic, mixer and compressor are out of the question even though some wouldn't agree with the particular models i have (the will remain nameless).

Well I gotta ask, do you need an eq? Only you would know based on your recordings. If everything sounds fine to you then all is well...?

Confused.

I find that my voice sounds more powerful when i eq it with software. It is also hip hop so i should have clarified that, not singing just to give people an idea of what i am doing. I find i sit better in the mix if i use some light eq and i cut the low totally (anything under 50 hz). I don't know if it is necessary to have hardware to do it but i like to add slight eqing to certain frequencies. I just figure christmas is comming up so i figured i'd start looking for new things. To be honest i have no clue what people use for vocals besides a compressor for hip hop.
