Gran Mariner is the ticket bro......I sing 4 hours straight several nites a week and when my voice gets scratchy.....I soothe them vocal chords with the nectar of the gods....Gran Mariner!

Or Ripple sometimes.

Ginger Brandy
Drambuie
Hot Lemonade with Honey

Be REALLY careful with the Fisherman's Friend lozenges, though - they'll let you sing for ONE day when you're really sick, but you'll do so much damage to your voice you'll be sidelined for weeks. In other words, they work too well.

Peppermint Schnapps... ...especially if you're a smoker.. A couple of shots before you start a gig, and the ole' pipes clear up by the third or fourth song... ....and the side effects ain't bad either. Strictly medicinal though (at least that's my story and I'm sticking to it).

Beer or Vodka!!??

Wait... Are you gonna sing ? And the song will be on the HR.Comp CD vol.2 ? Then whatever you took last night work fine, my friend... :D

Hot Tea, man.

All the alcohol will make you forget the lyrics...

Actually, lemon juice is best- but who's gonna drink a glass of lemon juice? Lemonade would be nice, but the sugar is too conducive to phlegm production....which I guess could okay for some throaty R-R-Rsss

Tequila does it for me every time. Another trick is to drink lukewarm water with lemon juice and cayenne pepper. This is an excellent way for getting rid of mucus. I actually doesn't taste as bad as you might think.

All those hot pop female vocalists.. you know alicia keys, britney, april, and christina to name a few... they all come see me before shows and I give them something to soothe their throats.

Water, water, water everything else is wives' tales.

If you look where the vocal cords are in your body, you'll see that ANYTHING you drink doesn't even touch the chords. That includes water, but the body absorbs the water and it gets to the chords a few minutes later.

Anything acidic, including alcohol, is going to wear the cords out.

I do use a throat spray called "Performer's Secret" it works OK, but it calls for me to inhale as I spray so I guess the mist gets right on the cords. But it's better to lubricate from the inside.

Lots of gigs and a few vocal anatomy classes helped me come up with this reply. I also will sing for about 5 hours every other day with the chorus classes I teach.

water,water,water

Oops, the stuff is "Entertainer's Secret" not Performer's Secret:o

I do like to suck on a Ricola before a gig...

did I say water,water,water?

Someone said mix some honey into your milk and drink it warm a day before singing.

I did that for 3 weeks and gaind 5 lb.

Read my post - Sugar makes you fat!

While all these things might soothe your throat (milk and honey sounds tasty) none of them will soothe your voice, here's why...
vocal cords
