What kind of things use S/PDIF? I'm new the the whole world of recording, I've been a DJ for a couple years but that's all.

I'm curious to know because I'm currently looking for a "pro" soundcard and wondering if this is something I should be looking for.

So any info on equipment that uses S/PDIF would be helpful.

I'm aware it's digital (because my dvd player has it).

Thanks
Steve

Well, to start with, my sound card (a MOTU 2408mkII) has 'em in and out as does my DBX 386 and Envoice Mind Print mic preamps as does my Johnson J Station guitar pre and not to forget my Sony DAT and mini disc recorders. Lots of gear with either S/PDIF or AES/EBU gozintas and gozoutas. I suppose S/PDIF would be considered semi pro over AES/EBU since it contains SCMS code but other than that you get the same level of quality from either.

DForm, welcome to this site...

That will depend on the equipment you already posess AND the equipment you intend on obtaining.

So.....

You need to provide us with a little more info (so, we can guide you in the correct direction). :)

I have them on my card and you can use them to Interface with digital mixers, your HD recorders. so to stay in the digital domain.
