i have a 12 channel mackie onyx on the way and two studio project B1 mics with my cakewalk home studio xl 2...i just wanted to know what kind of mixers you guys are using and does it sound good???

Mixers And Software

I Was Sonar 4 With A Yamaha 16 Track "mg16/6 Fx" With A At 40/40 Mic Sounds Pretty Clear And The Analog Mixer Give It That Extra Warmth Sound.no Complaints Here.but Ive Switched Over To Sequoia V8 For No Reason Just Wanted To Try Something New. The Sound Is The Same, Quality Also.

I only record myself, therefore I have no need for a mixer, aside from the software mixer that comes with my soundcard.

Wait for it...... Behringer UB2442FX

Does the job, I needed 8 channels for my drums. It's better to be recording with low budget gear than not be recording at all :)

Also I prefer mixing with real faders and knobs over a mouse. The direct outs of each channel feed my C Port.

tascam fw-1884. rock-solid firewire.

came with Giga24 which I could never get to work properly.

I use the Onyx 1640 and the Onyx 1620 mixers. Great sound.
In the field, I run them using the optional firewire card. In the studio, I run using a MOTU 24i/o interface connected over analog to the 1640. (The Firewire interface isn't bad, the MOTU is just better.)

Your equipment list sounds like a totally fine way to start.

I use an old mackie 1202 at home.....an old carvin 24 channel board at shot out productions and a mackie 32 channel 8 bus mixer at thunder bay studios.

No outboard mixer - just use the four track mixing control panel from my sound card - Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96.

Ciao,

Q.

Like Qwerty here...I'm using SONAR with an outboard Mackie MCU controller to do my mixing. The MCU is awesome.

I run a Allen&Heath MixWizard 16:2 with a MOTU 828mkII to interface to Sonar 4 Producer.. Very clean sound!! The setup you are getting sounds like a good way to go also.

i know a guy whos doing the same thing you are with the same products and he gets great sound...but thats a little out of my budget...

Still using my ol' Fostex VM200, as well as a Fostex VM88 mixer. All of my inputs come in through these, then into the computer via ADAT I/O. The VM200 is also used for mixdowns, as it is a MIDI controller.

Just got an SEASOUND SOLOIST to go with my MACKIE and my studio projects...next, shootin for some monitors, multi-effect processors, stereo compressor, and guitar effect processor....

Same here. The Yamaha mg 16/6 that is. But it's really just used as an input/output router for my Delta 66 card. And as a mic preamp.

A Behringer MX602. :o  :D

I really only record myself, no drums (that's all MIDI with softsynths), so really just got it for cheap mic pre's, for a way to let me record guitar and vox at the same time for when I'm just messing around with ideas, and for including my keyboard audio into the mix for some MIDI parts. Lots of people complain about Behringer, but I haven't had any problems with mine. I'm going into an Audiophile 2496 soundcard. Yeah, there's a bit more noise from the mixer than I would like, but whatever. It's probably a case where I won't truly appreciate how much noise it's kicking out until I upgrade sometime down the road. It might sound like you're in a wind tunnel to you lucky ducks with your high-end boards, but it gets the job done for this hobbyist.

Tascam DM24 via firewire card (IFFW-dm24). 24 channels audio va firewire.
I mostly use my Lucid convertors, though.

Soundcraft M12 into Delta 44 at the moment, shortly to be upgrade to Yamaha i88x or possibly the Tascam FW1884. Sounds fine, not the weak link in my chain (that is still my room), but with a room potentially on the horizon in the not-too-distant future, I can only keep muddling through and upgrading my gear.

I'm actually not using Cakewalk ... but that's a different story. :):)
