Hi

What kind of amps and effects (if any) did...

...use?

Thanks

Here's some links for Gilmours gear:

I had an even more interesting link once, but can't find it anymore. Live, he uses custom designed leslies... And got 6 hiwatt amps. Of which 2 or 3 are used to power the leslies. Leslies had to be custom designed because they just don't come that big.

His effects are all in one or 2 racks, alot of pedals too, boss, ibanez, old stuff, but all customized for less noise. And controlled by a -what's-it-called-.... One of those routing thingies, just alot of effectsloops that can be switched on and of by midi. Also custom build...

Thanks for your reply!

It would be interesting to see if other people know about the others mentioned in my question.

Thanks again

Hendrix used Marshalls. He also used a few pedals like a fuzzface and some kind of wah. I'm sure there are many others who know more about this than me.

Jimi liked the 100w Marshalls with everything turned up all the way all the time. He also used any stomp boxes he could get his hands on.

Page played Marshalls too but if you watch song remains the same carefuly, you can see one or two Orange amps in his live setup.

Angus likes the Marshalls too.

Many times they didn't use amps.

Gilmour on the "Another Brick Part 2" solo went straight into a Trident board and limiter with a Les Paul. He went DI often.

Jimmy Page on "Black Dog" went straight into the board and compressor with a Telecaster and triple tracked all the rhythm parts.

Angus doesn't do effects. :p

Angus Doesn't need to! He can make his guitar sound exactly like a keyboard. I wish I could find out how he does that trick.

There are some interviews of Page and Gilmour at www.guitarworld.com Pagey spills the beans on his early equipment and many facts that no one knew in three fascinating interviews. Look under "interviews".

Sunday night, July 14th, Robert Plant is on VH-1 Storytellers. Could be good. He's playing with some of the musicians he had on his last tour and the Page/Plant tour.

I read an article about Gilmour's gear a few years ago, and saw The Rat mentioned. I saw a Turbo Rat at a pawn shop shortly thereafter, bought it, and plugged it in at home.

Damned if I wasn't 50 miles closer to Dave-town than I'd ever been. It's the only overdrive I'll use for lead now. Put a touch of chorus & delay on it, & get yourself comfortably numb.

All this info jives w/ everything I've ever heard. I'd just add that I've read many articles that stated that Hendrix's guitar tech had one heck of a time keeping him in gear. He was so hard on his guitars that they were constantly tying to match up working bodies and necks, working cables, and fuctioning speakers to cabs every night before a show.
During the Montery Pop festival version of Wild Thing it sounds like his rig is about to die right there on the spot!

Hendrix used Marshalls mostly and for a short time he used Sunn's live ..I belive he also used Fender Twin's in the studio at times..As for fx' probobly everything he could get his hands on.LOL

Page used a Standell{low wattage amp} or something or other on the first album{Telecaster} and a Maestro Ecoplex..

And one more Tommie Iommi{B/Sabbith} Used Laneys..

Don

Laneys? I had a Laney half-stack a few years ago. I don't doubt Iommi used it. You couldn't get a clean tone out of that thing for shit. Damn good crunch, though.

and....

I'M NOW A JUNIOR MEMBER!! Two years and at last I've come of age! Or adolescent age, anyway. Hot damn.

Check out "The Recording Guitarist" by Jon Chappell. Available from Barnes and Noble for $20, it is a great tutorial on basic guitar recording, although a bit dated, now, technically. It has some great schematics of favorite signal chains of some of the greats above, as well as Steve Vai, Joe Satriani,Eddie Van Halen, and others. It also has a few cool tricks you can do with gear you probably already own.-Richie

That would be a Supro amp.

Don't know if it was like the one in the link.
