Recently someone posted a thread about fav. production techniques, reading most of the messages I though a lot of the talk was about boxes, equipment ect. Anyway, so perhaps some of you could take this from a different angle.
What I really enjoy is "to make up for it", so instead of using a drummachine I use percussion and syths. to create my drumparts. I tend not to use a sequencer, so everything has got that "human feel". I also use cardboardboxes and sheetmetal for all things rhythm.
So in a nutshell: using your imagination to create the various parts rather than specific machines for it. I also use gear for purposes where it is not designed for. So just to name one brand: The Sans-amp bass DI is a beaut. for fender-type of guitar sounds.
I have to admit most of these "techniques" come from lack of finances to buy the "proper" gear, however I am very pleased with the kind of results I get, and you certainly start thinking in a more creative way.
