What is the point of having a sound card with 2 inputs and 8 outputs? I am in the process of looking for my first recording sound card and I can't figure this out.
2 inputs / 8 outputs = you can feed/record 2 signal separated signal (usualy LR) into the PC simultanously, and routing the PC's output signal to 8 different outlets.
Having 8 different outlet can gives you freedom to choose, for example wheter Output 1 & 2 go to dry monitor, Output 3 & 4 go to tape, while 5 & 6 go to outboard fx A, and 7 & 8 go to outboard fx B... etc.
You can fire up several audio programs at the same time and not have them fight for the outputs. For example, I can have N-Track, FruityLoops and SoundForge open at the same time and bounce from program to program working on different files without them conflicting with each other for the output channel.
