what is the best book

what is the best book to buy about mixing and how to use effects. Im not interested in a book that spends 3 quarters of the book talking about equipment. Does anybody know of a good one

Don't know for sure; just ordered one from Amazon called Recording for Dummies. Might have some useful information; more information on this site if you use the search function.

In the meantime, try THE MAYOR OF CASTERBRIDGE by Thomas Hardy.

Well, unless you're a magician... you're going to need to know the equipment before you'll be able to mix properly.

You need to understand signal strength and flow, proper gain structure, and how to route and re-route signals to achieve your goals. Sure, you can fuck around and get lucky... but more often than not, you're going to run into problems that, to solve, will require your understanding of the equipment.

I think it's easier to learn the equipment... and learn mixing by doing... than it is to learn how to mix (by a book)... then pick up the equipment as your mixing comes along.
