what is punch in/out recording?

like i said, i am a newbie to recording and was wondering what punch in and out recording is and how you do it on cwpa9. any tips or leads to finding out how would rule. thanks.

Overdubbing. Recording over a section of a previously recorded track.

Highlight the section of the track that you wish to replace (ovedub) by dragging your mouse in the Time Ruler. Right Click on the Time Ruler and select Set Punch Points (punch in and out markers will appear). Arm the track you wish to overdub and set the cursor at some point before the "punch in" marker. Hit the record button. Recording will only occur in the region between the punch in and punch out points.
