OK,
I am going nuts trying to figure out what this snare drum accessory is called, and where to find it.

It looks like a small portion of wooden hoop the fits between a couple of lugs that helps save your sticks from getting chopped up on the edge of the hoops.
I've looked for "stick saver" and the like and can't find it.
I have seen some folks using it before and never thought to ask where they got it.
I don't want to spend 80 bucks or so right now for complete maple hoops.

Any thoughts?

Just get a cowbell.

Oh my God! I just read the reviews on this.

What kind of idiot buys this thinking it's an instrument?

This thing is meant for guys like me, where damn near EVERY hit with the left hand is a rim shot! It's meant to keep your sticks from getting chewed up on so many rim shots.

Where's my credit card?

TimboZ,
Thanks, yeah that is what I was looking for. It does not look exactly like the ones I have seen but it will get the job done.

PhilGood.
In the studio I don't play a lot of rim, but for some reason live I really like that extra POP of catching the rim a little most every strong backbeat. I am hoping for something to give me a little stick relief without hopefully hitting the thing with my hand.

Simman,
Maybe I should get wood rims, I wish they were not so expensive. I play the rim because I WANT to, not because I can't stop doing it. I was just looking for something that would help keep my cast rims from chopping my sticks so bad and hopefully not break the bank.

If you hold your sticks the right way, your knuckles will take the impact and save your sticks. :D

You've been watching me, haven't you???

Man I split a knuckle one time on the snare rim during a show and left a nice Jackson Pollock style blood splatter paintjob all over my snare and rack tom. It was fucking rock and roll.
